Sometimes things just don’t go the way you want them to. Or, all of a sudden, what you have been doing somehow isn’t working anymore like it used to. Well, you know what? That happens to us all! The key to it is to be willing to Improvise, Adapt and Overcome. You can only try to go through that brick wall so many times before you realize, that, hey, I guess I better figure out a different way to get around it or over it. Same thing happens with training. If what you have been doing isn’t working as well anymore, then improvise. Make some changes, adapt to the situation. For example, if all you do is go heavy and max out on the lifts all the time, it will work for a while, but eventually you will hit that wall where the progress stops. You need to adapt and change the training around to get it going again. Periodization of training is a time-tested way of training and it takes the “improvise, adapt and overcome” lesson to the max.
