As a follow-up to last week’s Tottenism Tuesday where I talked about “paralysis by analysis” and “overthinking”, here is something to think about. Weightlifting is all about numbers – personal records, qualifying for events, getting the numbers you need for medals, or whatever. It is hard not to think about the numbers because that is what our sport is all about. However, the key to success is to NOT think about the numbers! Instead, the focus should be on the movement itself, no matter what the weight. The weights will change, but going for a consistent movement pattern every time is something that doesn’t change. It takes practice, but train yourself to block out the numbers in your head and you won’t get in your own way!!
