A few weeks back, I was watching an interesting interview on TV with Rafael Nadal, one of the best tennis players of all time. To be at that level for the length of time that he has been, requires the physical, mental and emotional stamina that very few attain. In the interview, he was asked about the mental approach to his game. One of the things he noted was he felt that “a little doubt is OK”. You would think that the whole attitude would be about positive thoughts with no doubt in your mind about the outcome. But he felt that, otherwise, over confidence would set in and even a bit of arrogance. That could lead to complacency and letting your guard down. This little bit of doubt would keep the focus razor sharp to overcome those doubts.
